Annual Bighorn Day Feb. 11
Activities will include crafts, games, guided walks, presentations and telescopic chances to view bighorns from the center as well as the Mesa Road overlook. Coordinated by City Parks and the Nature Center with other outdoor-related entities and nonprofits, the annual event honors the roughly 70 Rampart Herd bighorns, who live in the open areas north of the Garden and often come down to the park or the neighboring Glen Eyrie property. The bighorn is also the official state animal of Colorado. Included in the presentations will be one about the local herd and another “specific to youth,” said Bret Tennis, Garden of the Gods operations administrator. Overflow parking will be available in the Rock Ledge Ranch parking lot on the other side of 30th Street. Westside Pioneer article |
