Wildcat Construction, the contractor on the
Westside Avenue Action Plan project, demolishes an abutment for the north half
of the old bridge over Fountain Creek at Columbia Road in preparation for
construction of the new Adams Crossing Bridge. The large pipes that are bound
together under the old bridge's remaining south half (at left) are temporarily
carrying the Fountain Creek flow.

One lane of West Colorado Avenue near the bridge construction at Columbia Road (as described in the original article below) is scheduled to reopen shortly after noon Friday, Dec. 15.
"The entire roadway [two lanes] is expected to open Monday, Dec. 18 around noon, weather permitting," an El Paso County press release states.

The following press release for the Westside Avenue Action Plan project came out the afternoon of Dec. 13:
"From 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13 through noon Friday, Dec. 15, Manitou/Colorado Avenue will be closed at the bridge over Fountain Creek [at Columbia Road]. This closure is to complete the installation of the 30-inch water pipeline in the deep excavation adjacent to the roadway.
"Stabilization is required to repair some undermining of the roadway. This closure is necessary for the safety of the traveling public and the workers while these repairs are implemented."
Detour possibilities include Highway 24 or El Paso Boulevard.
