Meet a Westsider:
Lisa Licano Thayne
Profession/Occupation...
housekeeper and hairdresser.
What I like most about the Westside is... my neighbors and living in a Victorian house. I love the history of Old Colorado City. If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... nothing. I have lived in many different parts of Colorado Springs since moving here in 1986. The Westside is the Best side. A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “October Sky,” about a kid named Homer who is inspired by seeing the Soviet Satellite Sputnik. He and his friends build their own home made rockets. The setting is a coal mining town in West Virginia and the time is 1957. The music is great and the story is inspriring. I borrowed the movie from my mother. She is better than Blockbuster (no late charges). I'd like to discover... a cure for AIDS. I feel that prejudice has hampered curing this disease. If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Barack Obama and his family. The first black president is an inspiration to me. The next time I travel, I’m going to... Garden City, Kansas, to see my 90-year-old grandmother and grandfather. My favorite childhood memory is... my 10th birthday. My grandmother Hebilee took me to see a mother burrow owl, and a few seconds later, three babies flew up to join her on the fence. It was unforgettable! My favorite fall pastime is... I love to hike Bear Creek and Red Rock Canyon with my son Dominick. Something good I’ve read is... “Left Behind,” by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. It’s a novel written by a former pastor and educator. He tells us what he envisions is going to happen when the world ends. My pet peeve is... liars. Telling the truth hurts less than a lie. If I didn’t have to work for a year, I’d... go to Mexico and learn to scuba dive. Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776. |
