Injured in I-25 escape attempt
John Winkler clearly did not want to go to jail the afternoon of Oct. 12.
The 20-year-old Colorado Springs suspected felon's attempt to escape resulted in a major traffic jam on I-25 when he somehow broke out of a 60-mph police car in which he'd been handcuffed and seat-belted, then was hit by a 65-mph car while running across the traffic lanes near the Fontanero interchange. He was taken to a local hospital with what police described as “life-threatening injuries.” The driver of the car that hit Winkler was not injured. From a press release |
