This flower bed by the Family and Friends of Genny in Thorndale Park was one of five finalists in the individual category for the “Golden Trowel
Award,” presented by Colorado Springs Parks to the best volunteer-maintained public flower beds in the city. The category winner, announced
at the Colorado Springs City Council meeting Aug. 10, was the North Cascade Neighbors & Penrose Hospital, for a flower bed at Cascade
Avenue and Madison Street. The first-ever competition was based on color, maintenance and overall appearance.
