Good summer for Thursday blues nights in Bancroft - final show Aug. 7

       The free, annual Paint the Town Blue series in Bancroft Park has grown in popularity this summer, according to Brenda Knight, president of the Pikes Peak Blues Community (PPBC).
       The last two of the eight scheduled Thursday-night shows are July 31 (the Ryan Manzi Blues Band) and Aug. 7 (Westside Rhythm Kings).
       The times are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Musicians set up in the Bancroft bandshell. In the event of rain, Jives Coffee Lounge, 16 Colbrunn Ct., is the fallback site.
       Numbers in attendance have increased to close to 100 people at a given time during performances. Knight said she thinks part of the reason is a cooperative effort that the nonprofit PPBC has this year with KRCC-FM radio, in which “Paint” bands are featured on the days of their Bancroft shows.
       She also thanked other sponsors of the event (which include the Westside Pioneer).
