Meet a Westsider:
Ruth Tapio

Profession/Occupation... homemaker; also, I cleaned houses for over 35 years and now I do homecare.

What I like most about the Westside is... the people are friendly. It feels like a small town (I’ve lived here most of my life), and I like using the buses.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to bring back Furr’s, Western Sizzling, Duckwall’s, Longs and the wax museums.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... We went to the IMAX in Denver where they showed a documentary of finding the Titanic using the submersibles. It was a fascinating film.

The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... from my father, who didn’t want us to get married. I didn’t listen to him. We’ve been married 14 years. My father did come around eventually.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Queen Elizabeth. I saw her up in Canada in the ‘70s when we were visiting relatives with my dad (he was a native of Canada). I also would have liked to meet Princess Diana. She was an interesting lady.

The next time I travel, I’m going to... the East Coast, especially in the fall. I also have friends who live there.

My favorite childhood memory is... sledding in Vermijo Park and things connected with grade-school outings (we went to a farm once and also took a trip to Fountain in a steam engine).

My favorite summer pastime is... I love going for walks with my husband Dan and sitting on the porch visiting with friends.

Something good I’ve read is.. “Dammi La Mano,” by Bambi Venetucci, it’s about her life.

My pet peeve is... one of them is lazy people.

If I won the lottery, I’d... I don’t play the lottery, but... we’d travel all over, starting on the East Coast.
