Space Foundation celebrates 45th anniversary of Apollo 11 The 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing will be celebrated in a free event Thursday, July 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Space Foundation's Discovery Center, 4425 Arrowswest Drive,The scheduled speakers are: - CAPT Bruce McCandless, (USN Retired), former NASA astronaut. - Marlowe Cassetti, former executive with NASA, McDonnell Douglas and Boeing. - Lou Ramon, former NASA employee in Flight Crew Operations and Mission Operations Directorates. Reservations are requested by July 15 at CustServ@SpaceFoundation.org “Join our speakers as they reflect on the Apollo program, its impact on history, the challenges of the time and lessons learned for the future in manned spaceflight,” a press release states. A question/answer session will follow. According to the release, the presentation is not recommended for children younger than 12 years old. The Discovery Center is also continuing its youth-oriented Summer of Discovery activities, with changing two-week themes through mid-August. “Mars, Rovers & Robots” will continue through July 19. The remaining Summer of Discovery themes are Rocketry, July 22-26 and July 29-Aug. 2; and A Taste of Space Technology, Aug. 5-9 and Aug. 12- 16. The center is open Tuesday to Saturday, with a $9 normal admission and some discounts. The Space Foundation is a non-profit advocate for space exploration and technology.
