Mayor, council talk No Man’s Land

Mayor Steve Bach (seated left at end of table) met with City Council at the monthly Mayor’s Counsel Meeting in the City Administration Building downtown May 30. One of the topics was the Westside’s No Man’s Land area (along Colorado Avenue west of 31st Street). A still-conceptual proposal is to write an ordinance for a no-panhandling zone in both the downtown and No Man’s Land as an attempt to cut down on transients and crime in those areas. City staff said they plan to bring a proposal to council for its informal meeting June 25, with a possible vote at the July 10 formal meeting. Also in the works is a Westside citizens’ meeting to provide input to the ordinance-development process. A meeting date had not been announced as of press time, but organizers expect it will be during the week of June 10.
