Interchange work: Full closure of Fillmore Street at I-25 April 22-25

During overnight work in early April, a track excavator breaks up the deck of the original Fillmore bridge over I-25 (between the new south and north bridges) en route to its demolition.

A full closure of Fillmore Street over I-25 is scheduled from Friday, April 22 at 8 p.m., through Monday, April 25 at 5 a.m.
Additionally, all I-25 on-and off-ramps at Fillmore Street will be closed during this time, a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) press release states.
Part of the $15.1 million Fillmore/I-25 interchange project, the closures will allow crews to remove and replace an extensive amount of asphalt (five inches of overlay) on the new south bridge, explained Ted Tjerandsen of Wilson and Company, a project consultant to CDOT.
“It was missing some critical elements and did not pass specifications,” he said. SEMA Construction, the project contractor, is absorbing the cost, he added.
The south bridge was built last year and opened to traffic in September.
The Fillmore closure will extend from Chestnut Street on the west to Mark Dabling Boulevard on the east, the press release states.
Also during the April 22-25 endeavor, crews will install concrete median drainage on the east and west sides of the bridge, apply fresh striping across the interchange, and prepare to build raised concrete medians, according to the release.
When built, the medians will replace the traffic barriers and cones that are temporarily marking Fillmore's new diverging diamond interchange (DDI) layout over I-25. The DDI uses the south bridge in conjunction with the new north bridge, which opened in March.
Tjerandsen said that one more weekend closure of Fillmore will be needed, probably in May, with overall completion of the interchange project in June.
