The Ridge Road access to the Garden of the Gods is temporarily closed to let a Colorado Springs Utilities crew replace a section of 30-inch water main under the roadway.
According to a crew member March 15, Utilities expects Ridge to reopen there "within a week."
The closure is just beyond Temple Drive, the last city street for northbound traffic before the city park.
The water main is part of a wide-scale Utilities project that also forced the closure of El Paso Boulevard west of Columbia Road for several weeks this winter.
The main connects the Pikes Peak reservoirs to the Mesa Water Treatment Plant at Mesa Road and Fillmore Street. The original pipe had been installed in 1934, according to records.
Ridge Road is one of four access roads into the Garden.
During the project, a sign facing uphill (northbound) vehicles on Ridge Road at Pikes Peak Avenue states “No Access to Garden of the Gods.”
