OCCHS offers Tunnel Tales in July, Founders Day in August

Westside history will be the focus of events by the Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS) in July and August.
Sunday, July 22, Tunnel Tales: In guided tours from noon to 5 p.m., OCCHS volunteers in period costume will show people the locations of six underground tunnels used long ago to travel secretly from the more placid north side of Colorado Avenue to its naughtier south side.
The cost is $20 a person. Tickets should be purchased in advance from the Old Colorado City History Center, 1 S. 24th St., either in person or on the phone at 636-1225. The center is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 12, Founders Day: Keith “Major Pikes Pete” Franzen will provide “A Musical Walk Through History” as part of the annual event to celebrate Colorado City's founding in 1859.
The event will be at the Old Colorado City History Center from 1 to 3 p.m. Commemorative cake will be served.
A former music teacher, Franzen has performed twice previously at the History Center, most recently in May. He uses his own pre-recorded accompaniments to back up his singing. His Founders Day show will include the works of Stephen Foster, and John Philip Sousa.
