Private security patrolling OCC
From June 5 to Sept. 3 (Labor Day), an unarmed officer with Mercurial Security Solutions will be on foot Tuesdays through Sundays from noon to 8 p.m., the schedule shows.
The $15,000 cost is being shared by the Old Colorado City Special Improvement Maintenance District (SIMD), the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA) business group and the Old Colorado City Foundation (OCCF).
The intent is to supplement Colorado Springs Police, although Mercurial cannot make arrests.
It has also been clarified by SIMD and OCCA leaders that neither the private security nor police can prevent loitering, such as in Bancroft Park's pavilion, unless harmful intent is suspected.
