Meet a Westsider:
For the past seven seasons, I’ve been doing data verification for the state-run LEAP (Low-income Energy Assistance Program), which helps people cover their November-April heating costs. Before that, I worked as a bartender and a hairstylist. I also received an associate’s degree as a medical assistant and a bachelor of science in criminal justice and
worked in those fields, and have had a plethora of other employment.
What I like most about the Westside is... It is where I and most of my family and friends grew up! Many of us are still on the Westside. “The Westside is the best side.”
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... Bring back Schoch’s Hardware store! It was the coolest store; the owners knew where everything was! I would also bring back all the old family connections that the Westside was famous for, e.g., Rogers Frontier Bar, Bambino’s and Fred’s Bar.
A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “The Shack”! What an awesome, positive, inspirational tear-jerker of a movie!
I'd like to discover... I would like to discover a great big aquamarine stone at Colorado’s Ontario aquamarine mines. And to find a way to bring peace to the whole world!
The next time I travel, I’m going... go to Brazil to see my Brazilian exchange students in their world. One went to Palmer for a year and the other to Coronado for a year.
My favorite childhood memory is... being able to ride my bicycle from Patty Jewett Golf course to Manitou Springs as a teenage girl and be safe! And kicking through the leaves in the sidewalks and gutters when I was young. My friends and I would pile them as high as we could, then jump from the trees into the pile! Oh, what fun!
My favorite spring pastime is... flying kites at Easter with my family. I also like to go on walks in the Garden of the Gods to see what is in bloom.
Something good I’ve read is... “The Keep,” by F. Paul Wilson. This book had to be the scariest book I have ever read. It was so scary I had to put it down during the day! They made a movie of it, but it was not nearly as good as the book!
My pet peeve is... Stupid people that don’t use their blinkers! Perhaps they have run out of “blinker fluid,” ha, ha!
If I won the lottery I’d... Travel! I have lived in Colorado most all my life, and there are many, many places I have never been!
