Meet a Westsider:
Pam Shinkle (Bloom)

Profession/Occupation... I’m co-owner (with my husband Bill) of Uncle Sam’s Pancake House in Manitou.

What I like most about the Westside is... seeing friends that I’ve known for years. Being a “Westsider,” I have enjoyed growing up and raising my kids on the Westside. There has always been a family feel about it. The Westside is truly the “Bestside.”

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... to put red left-turn signals at 21st, 26th and 31st streets and Highway 24. Too many bad wrecks at those intersections.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “50 Shades Darker.” It was a fun night out with the girls.

I'd like to discover... world peace.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... a young Brad Pitt could be fun!

The next time I travel, I’m going... In September, the Coronado Cougars Class of 1980 is going on a Carribean cruise to celebrate our “55th birthdays”! Details are on the Coronado website.

My favorite childhood memory is... my family playing music and singing in the kitchen while we fixed dinner.

My favorite winter pastime is... My favorite season is fall. It’s so beautiful here. I wouldn’t mind skipping winter! We like to travel to warmer places in the winter. We recently went to Mexico with some good friends.

Something good I’ve read is... I always look forward to the latest edition of the Westside Pioneer. It keeps me up-to-date on the events and lets me know about all the street repairs and new projects going on.

My pet peeve is... rude, impatient people. People that give money to the homeless on the street corners. The homeless that deserve help can definitely find it through the many organizations. Most of them seem to be able-bodied young men who could find a job. People enable them by giving them cash.

If I won the lottery I’d... travel. Spend more time with my grandsons.

Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776.
