Centennial reconstruction along 1˝ miles
The contractor, Kiewit Infrastructure Co., plans to work into the summer on the northbound side of the four-lane roadway, between Garden of the Gods Road and Rialto Heights, according to the project schedule provided by Ryan Phipps, City Transportation's project manager.
The effect will be one lane of traffic each way on the southbound side for roughly 1˝ miles
The work is part of a $9 million Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority upgrade for Centennial between GoG Road and Fillmore that is scheduled for completion by fall.
Most of the section being rebuilt is over a quarter-century old, Phipps has said.
In other traffic impacts, Holli Springs Lane, Amsterdam Drive, Hans Brinker Lane and Windmill Avenue will be temporarily closed at Centennial Boulevard, the project newsletter states.
Centennial's southbound lanes were rebuilt during Phase 1 of the project, between September and November 2016.
Phipps also explained changes in the phase names. Initially, the project had been defined as having three phases - GoG Road to Chesham, Chesham to Windmill and Windmill to Fillmore. The new definitions are:
So the work this spring will be Phases 2 and 4. Phase 3 will follow, then 5, plans show.
Combining Phases 2 and 4 “allows for an accelerated schedule,” the project newsletter states.
