Westside Neighbors Picnic July 18
By Welling Clark
President, Organization of Westside Neighbors (OWN)
Who we are and what we do: For those of you who may be new to the Westside, OWN is your volunteer neighborhood advocacy group, a 501c(3) nonprofit. We work to improve the Westside neighborhood while communicating the concerns of citizens to city and county elected officials.
The OWN board of directors meets on the second Thursday of every odd month from 6 to 8 p.m. (and more often as needed) at the Westside Community Center. The next board meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 12. The public is welcome.
OWN's normal functions include:
OWN identifies issues and then works to make sure that the concerns of our neighbors and neighborhoods are heard by local government and planning entities.
We are a friendly group of volunteers, and we welcome all residents who want to join us and help make the Westside a great neighborhood to live, work and play.
OWN Town Hall: Come learn the latest Westside goings-on at the annual OWN Town Hall meeting Thursday, March 9, from 6 to 8 p.m., at a location to be determined.
All Westsiders are invited.
Scheduled topics will include:
More information will be provided on the meeting once the location has been selected. Stay up to date by reading the Westside Pioneer online (or when its next print issue comes out March 3) and our Facebook page.
Open board positions: Three OWN board positions will be open in March. Terms are three years. The board consists of three at-large members and six who represent specific regions in the OWN area.
