Possibly caused by rain, a sinkhole appeared Aug. 10 (top left) on Chestnut Street's compacted-dirt bridge over Douglas Creek and kept on growing, as seen Aug. 13 (top right). A temporary city fix pulled up the pavement and dug deeper to control runoff (above). A design is in the works for a full bridge re-do. including a known-to-be-failing storm pipe 30
feet down that had been scheduled for replacement in 2019.
