Sallie Clark this year’s NACo president

       After a decade of work with the National Association of Counties (NACo), Sallie Clark has become its president.

       A Westside resident and businesswoman and three-term El Paso County commissioner, Clark was elected to the one-year term without opposition at the NACo summer convention in North Carolina.
       The entity works with about 3,000 counties nationwide.
       Clark is the first NACo president from Colorado, a press release states. She has been active with the organization since her first term as a commissioner started in 2005.
       In her acceptance speech, Clark announced an initiative called Safe and Secure Counties, which “will explore innovative strategies that counties implement to serve our citizens.”
       She also pledged to continue NACo efforts to “advocate for federal policies that advance the interests of county government... whether fighting unfunded mandates or securing needed investments in critical county services.”
