Fiddles, Vittles & Vino July 26 at Rock Ledge Ranch
This year's Fiddles will be Sunday, July 26. Following what's become a traditional format, four bands will play during the event, which runs from 2 to 8:30 p.m., and large, open-air tents will house food or drink offerings from 40-some restaurants, breweries, wineries or suppliers.
The main band will be Hot Club of Cowtown, specializing in jazz and swing. Originally formed in New York City as Whit & Elana in 1994, the group later became a trio consisting of guitarist Whit Smith, violinist Elana James and bassist Jake Erwin. Based in Austin, Texas, the group has produced 10 albums and toured with Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan.
Cowtown will play a single set, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., to close the event.
Before that, performing two sets of 45 minutes each, will be Songs of the Fall (a duo or quintet from Pagosa Springs), Caribou Mountain Collective (a quartet from Nederland that won last year's RockyGrass competition in Lyons) and the Stanleytones (a five-piece from Mead that's played at Fiddles three times before (2005, '06 and '10).
Until July 19, ticket prices are $45 and $15 for ages 13 and under. The price for each will go up $5 after the 19th.
Rock Ledge Ranch is located off Gateway Road at 30th Street.
