Bleachers out in the sun for ‘Demolition Party’
With music playing and bleachers set up to watch the work, COSMIX and Colorado Springs plans a Demolition Party for the public Saturday, Jan. 6 from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. in the “triangle park” portion of Monument Valley Park just east of the Bijou Street bridge over I-25, the railroad tracks and Monument Creek.
The gathering is scheduled four days after the start of the bridge removal by COSMIX contractor Rockrimmon Constructors.
Live music will be provided by the bluegrass trio, Grass It Up, according to George Hayward of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), which has contracted with Rockrimmon to widen I-25 through Colorado Springs.
There will also be food and drink vendors and face-painters. “People can enjoy snacks, entertainment and watch the Bijou Bridge come down,” Hayward said.
