OWN to fill 4 board positions at meeting Jan. 10 at cop substation
Voting for four seats on the Organization of Westside Neighbors (OWN) board is scheduled at the advocacy group's annual election Thursday, Jan 10, starting at 7
p.m. in the community room at the CSPD Gold Hill Substation, 955 W. Moreno Ave.
Open positions are District 3, District 5, At-large 2 and At-large 3. The first three are each for a full three-year term, while At-large 3 has just one year remaining (Stormie Wells having stepped down because of personal commitments).
Holders of the other slots are hoping to stay on. These are Bunny Blaha (District 3), Welling Clark (District 5) and Kristine Van Wert (At-Large 2). However, Van Wert plans instead to run for At-Large 3, because she wants a shorter term, said Clark, who has been the OWN president for the past two years.
An OWN-appointed nominating committee is looking for potential board candidates. Also, nominations for candidates will be taken from the floor at the Jan. 10 meeting. Any attendees living within the OWN boundaries can run for positions or vote in the election.
District 5 is north of Highway 24, south of King Street and between 7th and 14th streets; District 3 is north of Highway 24, west of 25th Street and essentially south of King and Uintah streets to the city limits.
In all, the board has nine seats (six district and three at-large). For more information, call Clark at 471-4023 or OWN Vice President Amy Filipiak at 634-4901.
