Exhibits in county buildings: 'Faces of the Fire,' 'City Works'

“Faces of the Fire,” a photo/story exhibit about the 2012 Waldo Canyon Fire, went on permanent display this month on the second floor of the El Paso County Service Center, 1675 Garden of the Gods Road.
The exhibit was created by photographer Wendy Pearce Nelson and journalist Liz Cobb, through meeting with numerous people who lost their homes in the fire.
“The word resiliency has a true meaning as it relates to our community and what we've seen over the last few years with the fires and floods and this exhibit captures our community's ability to recover readily.” said County Commissioner Sallie Clark. “We are honored and grateful to be able to display this exhibit.”
Another county building photo exhibit is at Centennial Hall downtown, 200 S. Cascade Ave. Titled “City Works,” it displays enlargements of black-and-white photos taken by Glenn W. Murray, who documented local building construction and public works projects from the 1930s to the 1960s. Individual prints are also available for purchase, with proceeds going to support the Old Colorado City Historical Society.
