Former county commissioner announces for Council D-3
Former County Commis-sioner Jim Bensberg has announced his candidacy for City Council, District 3.
The election will be April 2. Like all of those planning to run, Bensberg will need to turn in nominating petitions to the City Clerk's Office by Feb. 6 to become an official candidate.
Born and raised in the city's Cheyenne area, Bensberg served eight years on the commission, two times as chairman. Accomplishments he cites are establishing a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Colorado Springs and putting commissioner meetings on TV.
“My constituents have always known me for my accessibility, accountability and my desire to streamline government,” he states in a press release.
Covering a southwest area that includes the southerly Westside area, District 3 is one of six districts in a new charter-mandated configuration that increases it from the previous four.
Lisa Czelatdko, the current D-3 councilmember, said she will announce her plans at a later date.
In other candidate news, current At-large City Councilmember Tim Leigh, whose term expires in 2013, said in a brief press release that he plans to run for the District 1 seat (which includes the northerly Westside area), with details coming after Jan. 1.
