Trailer removed from West End post office; no final word yet on public parking
No official decision has been announced on public off-street parking behind the West End post office at 25th and Cucharras streets, but passersby might have noticed
the removal last month of the old trailer in back.
The temporary unit had been placed in the employee-only parking lot several years ago, with a hole punched through the building's brick wall for access, to provide extra space when all the station's functions were in one place. But in 2004, the Carrier Annex was built at Robinson and 25th, leaving only customer-service activities (typically about five clerks at a time) at Cucharras and 25th.
Removing the trailer frees additional space in the lot. However, Ron Perry, the U.S. Postal Service spokeperson in the Colorado Springs area, said regional postal officials have not yet made an official ruling on a request by the West End station to let the public park there. “We are working on it,” he said. “We have to do one thing at a time.”
