2nd Bear Creek by Candlelight seeks members
A year and 150 members ago, the Bear Creek Nature Center held its first Bear Creek by Candlelight open house.
The second annual Candlelight event, organized to salute current members and to attract new ones, will be Friday, Dec. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Featuring a luminaria-lit hike, live music by area singer-songwriter Jodie Adams and refreshments, the open house is free to members… which could also be people who show up that night. The seven membership contribution levels range from $20 to $500 a year, with the extent of benefits increasing with each level.
“The membership is growing,” said Todd Marts, Nature Center director, when asked how the effort has gone over the past year. “We're constantly working on it, trying to make it as friendly to our users as we can.” He added his hope that the 150 number could double in the next year.
The membership contributions help support Nature Center programs, which otherwise are limited by how much is allocated in the El Paso County Parks Department budget.
Offering year-round programs, hikes, exhibits, children's activites and special events, the Nature Center is at 245 Bear Creeek Road. For more information, call 520- 6387.
