What do you do?
Rosa Medellin

Where do you work and what is your title?
I work at West Middle School as an administrative assistant.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
Iím an office manager. My responsibilities include helping and servicing parents and students, as well as purchasing school supplies and taking care of the schoolís finances.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
Iíve been doing this work for 13 years, 10 years at West Middle School.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
One of the things I enjoy the most about this job is working with kids. I love to walk in the hallways and look at those faces. It makes my day!
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
I would pass a state law to make all schools in Colorado financially equal. For example, when George W. Bush was the governor in Texas he passed a law that made all the schools share equally in receiving equipment (computers, etc.) and funding, no matter where they were located.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
You always hear about how busy a school office can be, but you never really know until you actually work there. Every morning when I walk into my office, itís always a new challenge because I never know what the day is going to be like.
What makes working on the Westside special?
Thereís nothing like the Westsiders! These are people whose parents were born, raised, married and had children here, and their children had children and so on and everybody still lives on the Westside. Itís amazing.
