What do you do? ....
Ken Cronin

Where do you work and what is your title?
I’m the owner and manager of KMJ Gifts in Old Colorado City.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I do everything, including accounting, bookkeeping, ordering and stocking merchandise and assisting customers with their purchases.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
Since January 2003 – almost two years now. I’ve always been on the Westside. I started with lots of different items, but narrowed it down to swords, knives, dragons, wildlife and Oriental items.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I meet some very interesting people from different walks of life. A lot of them are interested in the Renaissance and Medieval times. People who are interested in martial arts and things from the past are drawn to our shop too.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
I would like to be available more hours. Right now, I have a second job.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
I didn’t have any experience in retail before this. I once operated concrete trucks and owned a wallpaper store. I decided to just jump into this. You only live once!
What makes working on the Westside special?
People – especially my fellow business owners. They are very helpful and we watch out for each other.

“Meet a Westsider” is taking a break this week. In its place is “What do you do?” – another regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
