Drainage work to continue in Doug Creek OS until January

Crews in the Douglas Creek Open Space this month have been addressing washout issues and shoring up the trail next to the creek. The work will likely continue until early or mid-January, according to Bard Lower, operations manager for the City Street Division.

After a neighborhood access from Vondelpark Drive to Douglas Creek Open Space's Sinton Trail washed out, City Street crews cemented in three 42-inch-wide culverts (shown here) in creating a permament crossing. The trail, which parallels the creek, can be seen in background.

The open space is north of Vondelpark Drive between Holland Park Boulevard and Chestnut Street.
The work is unrelated to the Waldo Canyon Fire in June, which had affected upstream areas of South Douglas Creek. “We had scheduled it this year, and this is the first chance we've had to work on it,” Lower said.
City Streets is responsible for the maintenance of drainage channels, he pointed out.
