Free parking Saturdays in Old Town
On Saturdays, at least, meter maids won't play “Scrooge” in Old Colorado City up till Christmas.
Following a practice going back to 2003, City Council has approved the free on-street parking on Saturdays, Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 22.
The requests are from the Downtown Partnership, the Old Colorado City Security & Maintenance District, and the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA) merchants group. Parking will also be free downtown those days.
The goal is to help bolster sales, a city press release sates. The four days of free on-street parking is estimated to cost the city's Parking System up to $27,200 in uncollected revenue. “However, if retail and restaurant sales improve as a result the city would realize an increase in sales tax revenue offsetting a portion of this amount,” the release continues.
The free parking applies to on-street meter parking only. Enforcement will still occur Monday through Friday.
