Principal Kathryn Presnal estimated about 200 people in attendance, including students, family, friends, staff and visitors. Among the attendees were three District 11 board members (President Tom Strand, Jan Tanner and Bob Null) and former Bijou Principal Wayne Hutchison.
“Today I saw it with a different set of eyes,” chuckled Hutchison, who had helped start the event during his tenure and remembered having to deal with last-minute issues. This time “I got to sit and chat with people and kids I hadn't seen for awhile,” he said.
Presnal credited Student Council volunteers (led by President Erica Martinez) for hosting the alternative high school's feast, which included multiple turkeys and copious amounts of potatoes, vegetables, rolls, fruit and desserts. Most of the food was donated, with volunteers cooking the turkeys and students bringing items in on an optional basis, Presnal said.
