Meet a Westsider:
Wendy McGowan

Profession/Occupation... RN, nutritionist, owner of Allergy Solutions of Colorado Springs clinic (alternative allergy treatment).

What I like most about the Westside is... the friendly people, the unpretentious attitudes, the big, old trees and charming older homes, shops and restaurants. I love the way I feel like I go back in time a bit and everything gets a little bit slower.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... that there would be no people begging because they would seek the resources that are available to them, and also that the flooding problems would be resolved for all and a connecting pedestrian bridge would be built from the south side of Highway 24 to the north side.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “42” (the Jackie Robinson movie) or the documentaries, “Food, Inc.” and “Tapped.”

I'd like to discover... a cure for every illness.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... probably Gandhi – he is inspiring because of the way he lived and put others first. I love some of his quotes, such as “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

The next time I travel, I’m going... take short trips, camping in the Colorado mountains, A longer trip will be either to Lake Okaboji or Texoma with friends. Later, Alaska and exploring the US.

My favorite childhood memory is... cutting firewood as a family, working together to get the truck filled, that wonderful feeling of being physically tired from working all day and then enjoying the warm, crackly fire together, especially like at Christmas with a chill in the air.

My favorite fall pastime is... hiking in the beautiful colors!

Something good I’ve read is... “Balancing Hormones Naturally,” by Dr David Brownstein.

My pet peeve is... mean people.

If I won the lottery I’d... hike more, visit friends more, dance more, travel more. I would open a center to teach young people about relationships, heath, finances and being happy.
