Holmes gives Waldo victims holiday help
A Holiday Decoration Drive will be held for Holmes Middle School families who lost homes in the Waldo Canyon Fire.
The school's National Junior Honor Society will be accepting donations November 5-9.
“Help spread some holiday cheer by donating lights, ornaments, wreaths, wall decorations, wrapping paper, etc.,” urged Kristin Abernethy, a seventh-grade language arts teacher and co-chair of the society.
Donations can be delivered during school hours to Holmes Middle School at 2455 Mesa Road.
AACL charity craft fair
The Academy for Advanced & Creative Learning, 2510 N. Chestnut St., will host its first-time Creating Community craft sale Saturday, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A portion of the proceeds will go to Care and Share and another to charities chosen by crafters. Repre-sented crafts include candles, soaps, scarves and homemade jams and jellies.
Donations of canned goods will also be accepted for Care and Share.
CHS hosts v-ball regionals
Metro League champion Coronado High School will host one of 12 regional volleyball tournaments in the state this Saturday, Nov. 3, starting at 10 a.m.
Coronado, which finished second at state in 2011 to Cheyenne Mountain and is seeded seventh this year, will play a round-robin with two other schools (Roosevelt and Glenwood Springs) to determine the Region 7 winner.
Each of the regional victors will move on to the state championships Nov. 9-10.
The Coronado Volleyball team was undefeated in the Colorado Springs Metro League this year, for its first league championship since 1998, according to school officials.
