Not quite enough for Coronado

When Coronado High won its first-ever boys state cross-country championship last year, Bailey Roth was the Cougarsí number-one runner. He was that again as a senior, but was slowed by illness in the Colorado Division 4A finals Oct. 26 and unable to carry his school to a repeat. Above, at the one-mile marker of the 5,000-meter race, eventual winner Liam Mierow of Summit High is at far right, with Roth trailing (second from left, in back, in red, black and yellow jersey). The team winner was Broomfield, with Coronado third out of 24 schools. Also qualifying for the state 4A championship again was the Coronado girls team. The Lady Cougars finished 11th after nabbing a second-place trophy in 2012. The state meet was held for the second year in Bear Creek Park East.
