Addiction group: 1st meeting Nov. 5

For those with addiction problems of any kind, a recovery group is forming on the Westside and will hold its first meeting Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. in the Upper Room at 817 W. Colorado Ave.
The Overcomers Out-reach addiction recovery group is modeled after the 12-step method of Alcoholics Anonymous, but also uses “addiction-oriented Bible Study” with an “unapologetically Christian” approach to helping individuals, according to Judith Hamand, one of the outreach coordinators.
There is no charge. “A basket is passed, with no obligation to put anything in,” said Hamand, who is helped by fellow coordinator Roger Pattison.
The two have an existing recovery group in Security. “We will start small,” Hamand said of the Upper Room. “Between five and nine would be a decent-sized group.”

She added that the recovery group is under the new management of the building by the nonprofit Springs of Hope ministry. For more information, the website is springsofhope.com.
