RTA, school bond, state rep job on line Nov. 2

A lengthy ballot awaits Westsiders going to the polls in the Nov. 2 General Election.
Contests most closely affecting the Westside will be ballot issues 1A (the Rural Transit Authority) and 3F and 3G (the District 11 buildings bond), and the race for state representative in House District 18.
Articles on the bond issue (which would affect the 13 Westside D-11 schools) and the two District 18 candidates appear elsewhere on this page. The Rural Transit Authority (RTA), which would use a 1 percent sales tax to build or upgrade transportation corridors - including seven projects on the Westside - and help fund mass transit, has been discussed in previous Westside Pioneers, including the Oct. 21 issue (viewable online at westsidepioneer.com).
In District 18, Incumbent State Rep. Michael Merrifield, a Democrat, is being challenged by Republican Kent Lambert. A Libertarian, Keith Hamburger, is also on the ballot.
District 18 includes Manitou Springs and the older Westside generally south of King Street, as well as the downtown and near eastside.
The polls will be open election day in the various precincts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early voting continues to be possible through Friday, Oct. 29. For more information, call the Election Department at 575-8683.
