What do you do?
Sharon Wolff

Where do you work and what is your title?
       I am the co-owner of Gunter-Wolff Gallery.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
As a small-business owner, I wear not just a few hats but all the hats! Most importantly, I promote and represent 30-some fine artists from this region seven days a week.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
We’re celebrating our first-year anniversary this month. Although I have more than 25 years of corporate experience in a technical field, my passion for art goes back to my early teens when I first visited the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on a class trip.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
To me, art is like breathing and excites the senses and evokes emotion. I have the good fortune of being surrounded by wonderful original art every day, but what I enjoy most about this business is being acquainted with some of the most talented and interesting people I’ve ever met in all my career. The icing on the cake is that I immediately connect with our customers because they too are passionate about art.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
I would like to change the perception of many of our local art collectors and art enthusiasts who believe good art can only be found in Santa Fe or other big out-of-state cities. Colorado Springs is the home of many prominent artists and galleries.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
I’m still trying to figure out how to squeeze 36 hours into 24 hours and still get a reasonable number of hours of sleep.
What makes working on the Westside special?
I like the small-town feel in a larger city and being able to become acquainted with other business operators on a more personal level. In historic Old Colorado City, even when someone doesn’t know your name, they take the time to extend a friendly smile and greeting. The Westside is a great place to be!

“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
