Groundbreaking set Oct. 27 for Broadmoor Bank’s Westside branch
The Bank at Broadmoor - Westside will have its long-awaited groundbreaking Friday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m.
The location of the full-service branch will be 3216 W. Colorado Ave. - a roughly half-acre piece of land that was an Arby's fast-food restaurant until a few years ago.
Construction on the nearly 3,000-square-foot building will start as early as that afternoon, with a best-case completion date of five months from now, according to bank CEO and President Ed Sauer.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature a City Council member - either Mayor Lionel Rivera or Jerry Heimlicher, whose District 3 takes in the lower Westside.
The bank, which has existed about a quarter of a century, also has branches in the Broadmoor, downtown and Briargate. Bank officials had presented their plans to the Organization of Westside Neighbors (OWN) - which gave it a consensus thumbs-up - before receiving city approval about a year ago.
Sauer was disappointed that it had taken so long to get a building permit - the original hope had been to have the Westside branch in business by September - but now that it's finally happening, the future looks bright. “We're excited about coming over there, especially with me being a Westsider,” Sauer said, adding the expectation that the bank's appearance will mesh with the character of the area and “help improve the (Colorado Avenue) corridor.”
