Olympic champion Cejudo to return for assembly at Coronado

Coronado High graduate and Olympic Games champion Henry Cejudo will return to Colorado Springs Tuesday, Oct. 28 for an all-grades assembly in the school gymnasium.
The event, from 11:15 to 11:40 a.m., is for students only; anyone wishing for more information can call the school athletic director's office at 328-3641.
This will be the 21-year-old gold-medal winner's first visit to Colorado since his triumphant title bout in the 55-kilogram (121-pound) freestyle wrestling competition at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, August 19.
A 2006 grad, Cejudo (pronounced say-WHO-doe) was an undefeated two-time state wrestling champion while attending Coronado. According to athletic director Dave Howard, “he is widely known as the greatest high school wrestler in American history.”
Dignitaries from the region, including Mayor Lionel Rivera, will be in attendance. Rich Bender from USA Wrestling will also attend, Howard said.
“This assembly will give our students an opportunity to celebrate the gold medal performance with Henry, and allow Coronado to honor Henry for his outstanding accomplishment,” Howard added.
