25th Street bridge to close Oct. 27-31 as repair project continues

The 25th Street Bridge over Fountain Creek is scheduled to close from Monday, Oct. 27 at 8 a.m. to Friday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.
The closure will allow the contractor, the DRX company, to repair the bridge deck, a city press release states.
The two-lane bridge connects 25th Street with Naegele Road, a frontage road between 21st and 25th.
(Update, 10/28: The city has responded to a question from the Westside Pioneer regarding potential traffic issues Oct. 31 if the bridge stays closed till 3 p.m., because 25th/Naegele is an access to Old Colorado City, and up to 2,000 people are expected to come there for the annual Safe Treats event from 2 to 4:30 p.m. According to Kim Melchor of City Communications, she talked to the contractor and was told that the work is most likely to be complete by noon Oct. 31.)
From Oct. 27-31, with the vehicle bridge closed, the pedestrian bridge next to it will remain open to Midland Trail users. That pedestrian span has already been repaired, the press release adds.
The $106,000 project, which started in September, is one of the last from the original Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority A-list that voters approved in 2004. City Engineering anticipates its completion by December.
