What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
I am the owner/operator of Pro Designs Custom Vinyl Graphics.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I design logos, custom make banners, and do custom painting and lettering on commercial and personal vehicles. I order the supplies that are needed for the shop. And, I also build race cars and do high performance modifications. I still race and just won 1st place in the 2 Wheel Drive division at the Steamboat Springs Rally.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
Six years total. All on the Westside.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I enjoy creating the designs and working with customers’ ideas. Using a computer program I have, I can show a customer what his vehicle will look like with the colors and designs he chooses. I enjoy the satisfaction of getting it done right.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
To have a bigger computer to work with and have someone do the physical work.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
School didn’t prepare me for working in this line of business. I’ve been helping my dad with his auto body shop since I was 10, so I learned a lot on the job. I also worked with graphic design computer programs and learned quite a bit that way.
What makes working on the Westside special?
I grew up here and went to Whittier, Buena Vista, West and Coronado. A lot of my friends are still here. I like working here and would still live on the Westside if it was more affordable.
“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
