Sandstone talk at History Center

The Friends of Red Rock Canyon will sponsor a free lecture Tuesday, Oct. 14 by UCCS instructor Brandon Vogt titled “Sandstone Weathering - Forms and Processes” at the Old Colorado City History Center, 1 S. 24th St., starting at 7 p.m.
“Weathering of the sandstone in Red Rock Canyon and the Garden of the Gods has created shapes and forms which sometimes inspire aesthetic appreciation, sometimes spur imagination and sometimes engender fanciful names,” reads a press release for the presentation.
Vogt a faculty member of the UCCS Department of Geography and Environ-mental Studies, made sandstone weathering the subject of his doctoral dissertation. On Saturday, Oct. 18, Dr. Vogt will lead an educational walk in Red Rock Canyon to complement his talk. Information about the walk will be available at the Tuesday talk.
The Friends lead volunteer efforts for Red Rock Canyon.
