Workdays, craft show at Westside Center
A large volunteer workday at the Westside Community Center will be joined by a seniors craft show in the center's gym Saturday, Oct. 16
They will be mostly simultaneous, with the craft show from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the workday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The center is at 1628 W. Bijou St.
Dick Siever, the center's director, said he expects about 130 volunteers to help with various tasks inside and outside the center. Another workday will start at the same time Oct. 23.
More volunteers are welcome, with lunch provided by Woodmen Valley Chapel's Mobile Kitchen, he said.
The craft show will feature items made by local senior citizens, according to spokesperson Shirley Cherry. Visitors that day can also get a tour of the center and learn about upcoming events, she said.

The Westside Center is owned by the City of Colorado Springs, which turned over operations to Woodmen Valley Chapel last spring as part of extensive budget cuts.

The Family & Friends Night on Fridays has proven fairly popular, averaging 50 to 60 people each time, but “we could double that,” Siever said.
He invited people of all ages to attend the free gathering from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the center's gym, in which people have been playing bingo for prizes.
