Pumpkins from neighborhoods sought for Oct. 16 event in Old Colorado City; winners get prizes

Are you good at smooshing knife thrusts through a pungent pumpkin wall? If so, the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA) merchants group would like to see your finished product. You might even win something.
Entries for the Pumpkin Carving Contest can be brought to Bancroft Park between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, with judging at 12:30 p.m. Painted pumpkins will also be accepted for judging.
Pumpkins must be pre-carved. No carving will be allowed in the park, according to OCCA President Nancy Stovall.
Entries will be judged in the categories of funniest, scariest and most creative. Prizes will be awarded afterward. Gift certificates to Old Colorado City shops - totaling $50 each - will be awarded to the three winners.
The festivities are part of the ongoing Scarecrow Days promotion in the Old Colorado City shopping district.
