Annual tradition turns to pumpkins Oct. 3

Hand-made scarecrows have begun appearing outside some stores in Old Colorado City as part of the merchant group’s annual Scarecrow Days (clockwise from left are Bernideen’s, Piramide’s and Studio 101’s). Definitely the “biggest” event in the fall tradition is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. The pumpkins, possibly tipping the scales at 1,000 pounds or more, will be on display in the Old Town Plaza parking lot at 25th Street and Colorado Avenue.
