Red Rock climbing event Sunday, Oct. 1

Wet weather forced the postponement of the first-ever rock-climbing competition at Red Rock Canyon Open Space. It has been rescheduled for Sunday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is open to climbers of all ages and abilities, with the competition categorized accordingly. The participation fee, payable in advance or the day of the event, is $25. Climbers need to sign in by 9 a.m.
There is no charge to watch the climbers.

Sign-ups are also being taken for a corridor-clearing workday at Red Rock Canyon Saturday, Sept. 30 and a trail-building project Oct. 14.
Although skies were clear on Sept. 23 (the originally scheduled date), event organizers said the dampness would have adversely affected the sandstone rocks if any climbing had been attempted that day.
