Project to close segment of Pikes Peak Avenue till Sept. 27

An ongoing project to connect a Colorado Springs Utilities gas line from the Near Westside to Confluence Park was continuing this week. The work meant that Pikes Peak Avenue will be closed between Walnut and Seventh streets until probably Monday, Sept. 27, according to Mike Mondragon, gas construction crew supervisor for Utilities.
The line will then need to turn south on Chestnut Street, meaning that street will be closed between Pikes Peak and Colorado avenues for about a week, he said. After that, there will be work along Colorado Avenue (dates to be announced).
Customers are being notified of the project in advance as it moves along, Mondragon said. The schedule is contingent on variables such as weather and unexpected underground discoveries as crews dig into the streets, he added.
Confluence Park, a new city park, is just east of I-25 and south of Colorado Avenue.
