Centennial water work: 1 lane each way
Electronic signs this week on Centennial Boulevard between Fillmore Street and Garden of the Gods Road advised motorists that road work will start Monday, Sept. 26 and they should use “alternate routes.”
The latter advisory may be a “little over the top,” Colorado Springs Utilities spokesperson Kristin Flannery cautioned this week, when asked about the signage. She said the project - a 750-foot water-line replacement near Vondel-park Drive - will keep a traffic lane open in each direction on Centennial; also, access will be available to the adjacent residential area and businesses.
The Utilities part of the project is expected to be complete within a week, with final paving work to occur by Oct. 10, Flannery said.
Another Utilities project in the Centennial Boulevard area will begin Oct. 17. That project, slated to be complete with paving by Nov. 14, will replace 1,150 feet of water main in front of 60 homes on Chesham Circle from Heidi Lane to Michener Drive. Residents are being advised of the impacts, and access to the Chesham Circle neighborhood's 186 homes will be kept open, she said.
Flannery added that a water-line break brought Utilities crews to South 21st Street near Bott Avenue for emergency repair work the night of Sept. 20. It is part of the same main that was replaced south of there last year. Flannery said it's possible that a replacement in the main's new problem area could be scheduled in 2012, but there is no money for it this year.
