Scarecrows abound in Old Town
Visitors to Old Colorado City will have a chance to check out quality art and food as the 10th annual Scarecrow Days continues Saturday, Sept. 23.
The main activities will be the annual Art on the Avenue (chalk art) competition from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Old Town Plaza parking lot and Taste of Old Colorado City (samples from 17 restaurants) from noon to 5 p.m.
Watching the artists is free, while Taste tickets (available from participating merchants) are $15, or $5 for ages under 12. Proceeds will be shared by the Old Colorado City Library and Old Colorado City History Center.
Scarecrow Days is organized by the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA) merchants group. The event will conclude Saturday, Oct. 7 with the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off.
Public voting is still welcome (and will be through Sept. 25) for citizen-chosen winners in the OCCA's best-scarecrow competition. A total of 41 scarecrows were entered by Old Town merchants, most of them in keeping with the OCCA theme this year of “celebrities.”
