Meet a Westsider:
I am the office manager at J.A. Kasten Accounting, Inc. I am also the event coordinator for the annual Halloween Safe Treats in Old Colorado City.
What I like most about the Westside is... I was born and raised on the Westside and just love it here. Most of my family lives here and I love the simplicity of the Westside. People are casual and not pretentious.
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... the proposed changes by CDOT for Highway 24, especially the elimination of 26th Street into the Historic District and Old Colorado City.
A good movie I’ve seen recently is... I’ve seen, “March of the Penguins,” with my nieces and nephews and loved it. The movie was about commitment and love in its simplest form.
The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... “Never attempt to climb Pikes Peak, its worse than childbirth.” However, I did climb the Peak this summer for the Pikes Peak Challenge. It was not an easy journey, but one worth taking. The views are breathtaking, if you can breathe at 14,000 feet!
If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... I think I’d like to meet Tiger Woods and have him give me some pointers on my golf game. I’d soak up all the advice he’d be willing to give me.
The next time I travel, I’m going to... Actually, I’m taking a river canoe trip to northern Iowa at the end of the month with a group of 18 women. The trip is called WOW, women on water. This is an event I look forward to going to each year.
My favorite childhood memory is... camping with my family near Breckenridge. My folks had some property that we would camp on and fish at the nearby river.
My favorite fall pastime is... for several years I’ve planned the Halloween Safe Treats Event in Old Colorado City for the children of the Westside and surrounding areas. Also like to plant those bulbs.
Something good I’ve read is.. e-mails from some of my friends stationed in Iraq, saying they are safe and on their way home to the states – always good reading.
My pet peeve is... I especially dislike the pre-recorded political messages on my cell phone. My vote will never go out to those who infringe on my minutes.
If I won the lottery, I’d... set up my family and closest friends, fund the 529 college plans for each of my nieces and nephews, and have the best Halloween Event that Old Colorado City has ever seen. I’d also fix up my yellow Volkswagen that I’ve had since high school. I’m a simple Westside girl.
